MSN not to Rebrand Despite Revamp
February 10, 2006
In spite of rumors and the new chief of the Microsoft MSN division, John Nicol, internally calling the portal as MSN Network Media, the spokeswoman of Microsoft refuted any talks of the company adopting a new brand for the portal.
Lots of rumors surfaced in the corporate circles last week over a rebrand for MSN, which might depict a precise reflection of the renovations with the portal. MSN is going a step forward to institute the right platform for digital media and entertainment content. Kathy Gill, Spokeswoman of Microsoft gave an official statement that there will be investments to enhance entertainment and other media services in MSN, but the portal will still be MSN.
Nicol, the ex-CEO of the news channel MSNBC, would use all his media expertise to fine tune MSN into a trendy media network. Other than the e-mail and information finding services and links, lots of innovations are in the fray in MSN. Channels, like Travel, Shopping, Dating and Romance, Health and Fitness, Movies... etc. would soon hit the web space.
MSN is at the center of Microsoft's strategy to provide more web based services and entertainment content. This can rake in revenue for the company through advertising and deals with media content providers. The company officially launched this program, dubbed as “Live Software.” But, whatever the changes, Microsoft won't change the brand name MSN.
