IBM BladeCenter gears up to boost the retail industry

IBM has come up with innovative solutions using the IBM BladeCenter platform which would be a boon to the retail industry. The latest solutions would help retailers in resourceful and cost-effective handling of the entire servers, applications and networking by consolidating them in a single configuration.

The global retail industry is heading for a big boom, expected to reach $150 billion by 2009, according to Gartner Dataquest. To keep up with the rapid growth, retailers need to personalize their in store handling of customers and products by employing cutting edge technology and applications to manage the sophisticated and complex operations. But, with the shortage of IT skilled retailers in many remote locations, the new IBM BladeCenter solutions come as a welcome relief.

Two-and four-way Intel® processor based servers and two-way IBM POWER® are merged to form this new IBM BladeCenter solutions. The IBM BladeCenter solutions can support Windows, Linux and UNIX applications. It would definitely be a benefiting a platform for flexible deployment of all the store operations.

The network administrators can effortlessly and efficiently execute the store operations from a centralized system. It would enable the retailers to easily link up suppliers and distributors, and aid in inventory ticking. Jan Jackman, GM, IBM Retail Demand stated that the solutions can integrate the new technologies to create a new shopping experience.
