Firefox 2.0: Mozilla’s Agenda up Next
February 20, 2006
Firefox 2.0 is next in the agenda of Mozilla. Mozilla's engineering team is focussed on developing the latest version of Firefox to challenge Microsoft's upcoming Internet Explorer 7.
Mike Schroepfer, vice president of engineering, Mozilla said the company has finished the groundwork to release the next major update, Firefox 2.0 in the third quarter. Mozilla is centralizing on putting additional features and improvements to make sure that its browser stays ahead of Microsoft. "Firefox 1.5 was focused on the platform, but 2.0 will be about the UI, a smaller set of platform things, and more features that the user will see," Schroepfer said.
Among the new developments, updates and additions of Firefox, the engineering team of Mozilla is giving importance to the browser's bookmark and history system, popular plug-ins, search engine improvements, enhancements to security extensions, and changes to the tab based user interface.
Mozilla's engineering team and developers are very confident of staying ahead of Microsoft's Internet Explorer 7 with these new add-ons to the existing Firefox.
